After a project spanning 18-months, the NZRB’s legacy wagering system is in the process of being decommissioned to make way for Typhoon, signalling a new era in wagering system implementation.
As announced by the NZRB in October 2009, “the move to a new system is long overdue and we're delighted that we’re building a platform from which we can launch so many more products and services quickly and efficiently.”
The NZRB pointed out that “along with a fast and reliable service, Typhoon will significantly improve the TAB’s capacity to compete against offshore operators, who return nothing to New Zealand racing or sports. Typhoon enables us to be much more agile and responsive in meeting our needs and those of our customers."
Some of the problems faced by the NZRB were:
Jetbet could not offer betting on some major international races with more than 24 horses because the previous wagering system was not able to cater for that number of runners. Typhoon is capable of handling unlimited numbers of race meetings and events, numbers of runners or selections, numbers of pools and the number of customer accounts.
TAB customers were previously not able to view their entire betting history, which will be overcome with the introduction of Typhoon.
The Typhoon system now provides the NZRB with an improved ability to manage problem gambling issues if and when they arise through greater real time visibility and reporting.
Typhoon provides improved systems for better decision making by the NZRB management through real time reporting.
Typhoon will enhance existing products and introduce new products in an agile and efficient manner.
